Geometry Wall: Sculpture, Animation & Projection Mapping
Fort Wayne, Indiana | Broadway Arts District
In October 2026, I presented a large-scale outdoor installation at The Abstract in Fort Wayne's Broadway Arts District. The exhibition brought together modular geometric sculpture, original animation, and projection mapping, extending my ongoing exploration of how traditional art forms can be transformed through moving images and technology.
At the center of the installation was my Geometry Wall, a three-dimensional sculptural system constructed by hand from repeating 12-inch equilateral triangles. Its individually mapped surfaces create a shifting architectural canvas where projected imagery interacts with physical depth, shadow, and perspective.
An Extensive Library of Original Animation
For the installation, I developed an extensive library of original animated sequences combining traditional cel animation, rotoscoping, and three-dimensional animation created in Blender.
Each technique contributes a different visual language. Hand-drawn cel animation preserves the expressive qualities of illustration and painting. Rotoscoping translates recorded movement into stylized, frame-by-frame imagery. Blender allows me to explore three-dimensional forms, impossible architecture, geometric transformations, and simulated spatial depth.
These approaches are combined into custom sequences designed around the sculpture's physical geometry. Animation travels across its triangular surfaces, creating the illusion of forms expanding, contracting, folding, and moving through the wall.
The sculpture can shift between entirely different visual environments while retaining its underlying physical structure. This relationship between a permanent sculptural form and an evolving library of moving imagery is central to the work.
Sculpture as an Animated Environment
The Geometry Wall was developed as an expandable modular system rather than a fixed, single-use sculpture. Its sections can be rearranged and extended to create increasingly large architectural configurations.
At The Abstract, the installation functioned as both a completed public artwork and a working prototype for larger environments.
The outdoor exhibition allowed me to develop and test the physical fabrication, modular assembly, projection alignment, animation playback, and maintenance of the sculpture under real conditions.
From Painting to Moving Images
My animation practice grows directly from my work as a painter. Across both media, I investigate light, atmosphere, surreal landscapes, movement, and the illusion of dimensional space.
By combining individually drawn animation frames, rotoscoped movement, digital three-dimensional imagery, and the physical relief of the Geometry Wall, I can create visual experiences that move between painting, cinema, sculpture, and architecture.
Exhibition and Continued Development
Presented in conjunction with Art This Way Fest 2026, the installation received coverage from the Journal Gazette and WANE 15 television, including a live demonstration of the projection-mapping process.
The Geometry Wall continues to evolve as a modular installation system, with future configurations exploring immersive passageways, larger architectural surfaces, custom character animation, and responsive environments that interact with audience movement.
